Abstract
The gastrointestinal stapler was pioneered in 1920 by Aladar Petz. It was originally designed to simplify bowel anastomosis and to reduce peritoneal contamination. The gastrointestinal stapler can be used to transect the rectus abdominus effectively. We describe the technique for harvesting the transverse rectus abdominus muscle flap.
