Correction of recurrent entropion in Chinese patients

Abstract.

We present a technique to correct recurrent entropion and trichiaisis in Chinese patients on the upper and lower eyelids using a rotation flap consisting of pretarsal skin and orbicularis oculus muscle, together with epicanthal Z-plasty. Ten patients (aged 15–29 years; 22 eyelids) underwent corrective surgery using this technique. They were followed up for 2–24 months. All patients achieved a good result except two (two eyelids), these were improved but still had minor trichiasis at the lower medial canthus. No disorderly growth of the eyelashes occurred. This technique effectively everts the eyelashes from the globe with minimal scarring and provides an acceptable long-term esthetic result suitable for the Chinese eyelid.
