It is with deep regret and sadness, that we announce the passing of Professor Bassem Georgy, renowned neuroradiologist in San Diego, CA, USA. Our thoughts go to his wife Mrs. Eman Ghobrial Georgy and his two sons Mark and Matthew Georgy, to whom we offer our sincere condolences.

Dr. Georgy received his medical degree and his master degree in radiology at the School of Medicine of Cairo University in Egypt, and he completed his radiology residency at the University of South Alabama, USA. He did his fellowship in neuroradiology and magnetic resonance imaging at the University of California, San Diego, USA.

Prof. Georgy was an esteemed member of the European Society of Neuroradiology (ESNR) and a frequent and welcome faculty member at many of our meetings and courses. He was the architect of the collaborative effort between ESNR and the American Society of Spine Radiology (ASSR) that resulted in a successful series of joint ESNR-ASSR Spine Courses, starting with the first course in Rome, Italy in 2009, and still ongoing today. He was an excellent interventional spine radiologist, and his presence was very welcomed at our ESNR Hands-on Spine Courses. He was past President of the ASSR and the San Diego Radiological Society. He received many honors and awards for his research and presentations in Europe, the US and beyond. He also was an Associate Editor of Pain Physician and Reviewer for the American Journal of Neuroradiology and the Journal of NeuroInterventional Surgery. Prof. Georgy published extensively in peer reviewed journals and was author of a large number of book chapters. His publications were insightful and we all learned many things from Bassem.

Bassem was a dear friend and colleague. He was well known and respected by everyone throughout the spine radiology community. As an associate Clinical Professor of Radiology at the University of California in San Diego, as well as in private practice in the local county, he touched many lives and families, in a compassionate and professional manner. He was thoughtful and always happy to invite friends and colleagues to meetings and social events. He traveled the world with his family, and anyone that spoke to Bassem knew how deeply he treasured those times.

Bassem will be sorely missed by all who knew him, but he will live on in our hearts forever.
