Abstract

This work considers transient conductive and radiative heat transfer in a two-dimensional, cylindrical, scattering medium heated or cooled by internal heat source or boundary surface. A finite difference scheme is employed for handling the energy storage and the heat diffusion by conduction, while a discrete-ordinate method is used to analyze the radiative heat transfer. The effects of various parameters, including the conduction-radiation parameter, the scattering albedo and the emissivity of the boundary surfaces, are investigated.
