Discovery of deeply bound π⁻ states in the ²⁰⁸Pb(d,³He) reaction

Abstract

Narrow lines were observed around 133 MeV excitation energy in the ²⁰⁸Pb(d,³He) reaction at T _d = 300 MeV/u using the Fragment Separator System at GSI. They are assigned to the deeply bound π⁻⊗²⁰⁷Pb states with configurations of ${\left( {2{\text{p}}} \right)_{{\pi ^ - }{\text{ }}}}{\text{ }}\left( {3{{\text{p}}_{1/2}},{\text{ 3}}{{\text{p}}_{3/2}}} \right)_n^{ - 1}$.
