Summary

We introduce the notion of global physical equivalence between two deformable thermoelastic bodies ℬ and ℬ′. This equivalence is understood in the sense that a global thermokinetic process for ℬ is admissible (in the sense of Coleman & Noll) if and only if its counterpart for ℬ′ also is admissible according to a suitable bijective correspondence \(\hat{k}\) between ℬ and ℬ′. Here we prove a general theorem which establishes some conditions on the response functions of two deformable thermoelastic bodies that are necessary and sufficient for these bodies to be globally equivalent in the absence of heat sources.
