Abstract

I study the structure of Pitteri neighborhoods centered at hexagonal close-packed configurations of monatomic crystals using my previously introduced X-ray theory. The theory is generalized to cover some effects of magnetism. I give an alternative formulation of X-ray theory that makes comparison to conventional continuum theories more transparent. I study the influence of lattice symmetry on the constitutive relations of nonlinear thermoelasticity and thermomagnetoelasticity, consistent with the existence of a Pitteri neighborhood.
