Output voltage quality analysis of three-phase multilevel inverters

Multilevel inverters became a key piece in most energy conversion, transportation and management systems. The present paper encompasses a wide total harmonic distortion (THD) investigation of the multilevel inverter output voltages. Such investigation is conducted with cascaded topology for some reasonable number of inverter levels L and various modulation index m. A novel and efficient approach is developed to express analytically the voltage THD bounds. Found upper and lower THD limits for arbitrary L and m apply also for neutral point clamped and flying capacitor topologies. They could really serve as reference for quality analysis of multilevel inverters.
