“Complexity of deciding whether a tropical linear prevariety is a tropical variety”
published in Applicable Algebra in Engineering, Communication and Computing Vol. 32, Issue 2, 157—174 (2021).
The prize is awarded for a novel algorithm that decides whether a tropical linear prevariety is a tropical variety. The main theoretical tool of this algorithm is a criterion that exploits duality properties between the tropical orthogonalization and the double tropical orthogonalization of a subset of vectors. Whereas known algorithms require doubly exponential time in the number of variables, one of the two main algorithms introduced in this article runs in time which is simply exponential in the number of variables.
The selection committee of the 2021 AAECC Best Paper Award in Memory of Jacques Calmet was formed by Grégoire Lecerf, Daniel Panario and Luis Pardo.
The selection committee, the Managing Board and the Editor in Chief wish to extend their warmest congratulations to the winners.
