Die rechtsmedizinische Begutachtung der Opfer des U-Boot-Unglücks „Kursk“

Zusammenfassung

Die Katastrophe des russischen U-Bootes „Kursk“ erschütterte die Welt: Während eines Manövers der Nordmeerflotte sank es am 12. August 2000 nach 2 Explosionen. Über die Ursache der Katastrophe herrschte zunächst ebenso Unklarheit wie über das Schicksal der Besatzung. Erst nach Bergung des Wracks wurde offensichtlich, dass eine Torpedoexplosion und nicht, wie lange von russischen Militärs vermutet, eine Kollision das Unglück ausgelöst hatte. Durch rechtsmedizinische Untersuchung konnten schließlich 115 Besatzungsmitglieder identifiziert werden. Von 3 Opfern fehlt bisher jede Spur. Unter den festgestellten Todesursachen waren verschiedene Kombinationen von stumpfen Traumen, Verbrennungen, Kohlenmonoxid- (CO-)Vergiftungen sowie Unterkühlungen festzustellen. Der zeitliche Ablauf der Katastrophe konnte schließlich geklärt werden.

Abstract

The catastrophic sinking of the russian submarine “Kursk” shook the world: On 12th August 2000, during manoeuvres of the Northern Fleet in the Barents Sea, the “Kursk” sank following two explosions. Initially the cause of the accident as well as the fate of the crew was unknown. Only following the recovery of the wreck was it possible to determine that the cause of the accident was a torpedo explosion and not a result of a collision, as was suspected by the russian military. The forensic investigation was able to identify 115 of the crew members but no trace of three crew members was found. The causes of death were determined to be various combinations of blunt trauma, burning, CO poisoning and hypothermia. The chronological progression of the catastrophe could be clarified.
