Manufacturing Data-Based Combined Dissimilarity Coefficient for Machine Cell Formation

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology Aims and scope Submit manuscript

In this paper, a combined dissimilarity coefficient between machines is proposed. The proposed method takes into consideration, the manufacturing data such as the demand for the product, the sequence of operation of parts, the unit operation time and the available machine time. The algorithm assigns parts to a machine cell based on the average cell load and number of inter-cell moves that they require. The performance of the machine-component grouping is evaluated by the total number of inter cell moves, grouping efficiency, and total cell-load variation as criteria and is compared with the similarity coefficient method available in the literature.
