Fixture design is an important process design activity, for which automation is critical for the integration of computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM). In this paper, a review of the state of the art approaches of fixture design is provided. The current drawbacks of the existing approaches and the research areas to focus on in the near future are also identified.
