Abstract
Fuzzy-based Taguchi methods were used to optimise the parameters for the CO2 laser machining of timber. An orthogonal array, the signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio, and the analysis of variance (ANOVA) are employed with reference to process factors. Combining the Taguchi method and fuzzy logic, using the multiple performance characteristics index (MPCI), allowed determining the optimal combination of factors for cutting the timber. The confirmatory test was performed to verify the estimated response.
