Abstract

Process benchmarking has become one of the major conceptual approaches in business process improvement. The needs of various comparative activities have been proposed for process benchmarking. Process logic comparison (PLC) paid attention to the differences between company’s operations and partners’ operations to discover improvement opportunities has become the most important task in process benchmarking. Although several concepts of PLC have been proposed in the literature, research in this area lacks a structural analytical approach for effective comparison.

This paper has proposed an approach to assist project teams in PLC. There are three portions in this approach. First, alternative processing paths embedded in each compared process’s flowchart are identified. Then, proper pairs of processing paths from compared flowcharts are selected for processing sequence comparison. Finally, the processing sequence comparison is performed on each derived pair of processing paths. Equipped with the proposed PLC approach, project teams can easily understand the differences between their own operations and partners’ operations .
