Roland Becker, MD, PhD, has been appointed Deputy Editor of Knee Surgery Sports Traumatology Arthroscopy and will take up his post on 1st June, 2011. Roland has served our Journal for several years initially as a reviewer and then as an Editorial Board Member and for the last 2 years as an Associate Editor. Roland will have special tasks, namely the responsibility for manuscripts on knee osteoarthritis, knee replacement and osteotomies. He will also be our link to EKA (European Knee Association).

Roland was trained at the University of Magdeburg. After his graduation, he worked in England and Switzerland to specialise in Orthopaedics and Traumatology. One year before his final examination in Orthopaedics, he returned to the University of Magdeburg and spent the following 8 years in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery under the leadership of Prof. Neumann. His special interest is knee surgery and arthroscopy. His research work focuses on biomechanical and molecular aspects, especially related to the meniscus.

In 2002, he defended his PhD Thesis, before moving to Brandenburg 3 years later when he was appointed Chief of Orthopaedics and Traumatology at the Teaching Hospital of the Charité in Brandenburg.

Roland is a member of ESSKA since 2002, board member of EKA (European Knee Associates) and the current vice president of AGA—the German Speaking Association of Arthroscopy.
