Zusammenfassung

Die Fatigue-Belastung zählt zu den die Patienten am stärksten beeinträchtigenden Nebenwirkung einer Tumorerkrankung und Tumortherapie. Die akuten Formen der tumorbedingten Fatigue kommen vor mit einer Inzidenz von 75–80%, sie werden durch die Tumorerkrankung direkt und indirekt beeinflusst. Dem akuten Fatigue-Syndrom liegt in vielen Fällen eine Anämie zugrunde. Die Behandlung umfasst neben der Korrektur der Anämie körperliches Training sowie psychoonkologische Maßnahmen zur Verbesserung der Krankheitsbewältigung. Je nach Tumorart treten bei bis zu 50% aller Patienten nach Abschluss einer Behandlung chronische Erschöpfungszustände auf, die zu einer erheblichen Verschlechterung der Lebensqualität führen können. Behandlungsoptionen der chronischen Fatigue sind bislang nur in Ansätzen erforscht worden. Entscheidend für die effektive Behandlung sind interdisziplinäre Therapiestrategien sowie weiterführende Studien, welche die Behandlung auf eine validierte Grundlage stellen.

Abstract

Cancer-related fatigue is a distressing persistent and subjective sense of tiredness or exhaustion related to cancer or cancer treatment that affects patients more than other therapy-related side effects. The incidence of acute cancer-related fatigue is approximately 75-80%. The correlation between anemia and acute cancer-related fatigue has been demonstrated. Therefore, treatment of anemia, physical exercise and psychological interventions when appropriate can reduce fatigue and improve functioning in the cancer patient. Depending on the type of tumor, chronic fatigue is a symptom that occurs in up to 50% of patients when tumor therapy is completed and significantly affects quality of life in these patients. Little is known regarding treatment options for patients with chronic fatigue and guidelines do not exist. Therefore further studies are needed to improve interdisciplinary treatment strategies for these patients.
