Radiologic means aid in assessment of the most suitable side for operation and allow the surgeon to be prepared for special situations in order to perform the operation without difficulties [22]. The most suitable modalities are CT and MRI preoperatively. In uncomplicated cases, conventional imaging suffices for the postoperative needs. CT should only be performed if the patient complains of symptoms.

Insgesamt bietet die Bildgebung dem Operateur eine Entscheidungshilfe, welche Seite für die Implantation gewählt werden soll und mit welchen Besonderheiten zu rechnen ist, um sich so gezielter auf die Operation vorbereiten zu können [22]. Die präoperative Diagnostik umfaßt CT und MR. Bei unkompliziertem Verlauf findet man postoperativ mit der Durchführung eines konventionellen Röntgens das Auslangen. Nur bei symptomatischen Patienten ist ein CT indiziert.
