Die chronische Infektion mit dem Hepatitis-B- oder -C-Virus ist nach wie vor ein weltweites Problem. Die chronische Hepatitis kann zur Ausbildung einer Leberzirrhose oder eines hepatozellulären Karzinoms mit ihren weitergehenden Folgen führen. Der vorliegende Beitrag fasst die aktuellen Empfehlungen für die Behandlung der chronischen Hepatitis in Folge einer Infektion mit dem Hepatitis-B- bzw. -C-Virus zusammen. Insbesondere werden Therapieempfehlungen für Problemfälle wie die Behandlung bei HBV-Varianten oder von “non-respondern” aufgezeigt. Zusätzlich erfolgt ein kurzer Ausblick auf zukünftige Therapieoptionen.
