Abstract
In this study, a new formaldehyde-free adhesive made by in-situ chlorinating graft copolymerization for plywood was developed. The main ingredients of this adhesive include maleic anhydride (MAH), little Cl side groups and high density polyethylene (HDPE), that is MAH grafted onto HDPE (PE-cg-MAH) and the polymer chlorinated at one time. The results showed that using PE-cg-MAH as adhesive the resulting plywood can meet Type I plywood and the optimum hot-press conditions were 160–165°C and 5 min.
