Zusammenfassung

Eine 88-jährige Patientin wurde nach Synkope konsiliarisch wegen Dyspnoe in der HNO-Klinik vorgestellt. Seit Jahrzehnten waren die Nasenatmung und Riechfunktion aufgehoben. Die Nase war aufgetrieben und wies eine rötlich-livide, glatte, obliterierende Raumforderung auf. Bereits vor der Pubertät war eine Polyposis nasi aufgetreten. Außerdem bestanden Hyperteleorismus und Epiphora beidseits. Die Patientin lehnte zwar weitere Interventionen ab, doch konnte die Diagnose eines Woakes-Syndroms klinisch gestellt werden.

Abstract

An 88-year-old female patient presented at our ENT clinic following syncope for consultation regarding dyspnea. Nasal breathing and olfactory function had been absent for several decades. The nose was distended and showed a livid red, smooth invasive mass. Childhood onset of nasal polyposis was reported. In addition, hypertelorism and bilateral epiphora were present. Although the patient declined treatment, it was possible to establish the clinical diagnosis of a Woakes’ syndrome.
