Phytopharmaka

Zusammenfassung

Phytopharmaka sind Arzneimittel aus Pflanzen, Pflanzenteilen oder Zubereitungen daraus, deren arzneilich wirksamer Bestandteil ein komplex zusammengesetztes Vielstoffgemisch ist. Sowohl Anwendung als auch Herstellung von Phytopharmaka sind in Deutschland im europäischen Vergleich von besonderer Bedeutung. Das Arzneimittelgesetz sieht vor, dass die Belange der Phytotherapie als einer „Besonderen Therapierichtung“ spezifisch berücksichtigt werden. Grundlage für die Einordnung und regulatorische Bewertung durch das Bundesinstitut für Arzneimittel und Medizinprodukte als zuständiger Bundesoberbehörde sind europäische Normen, nationale Bestimmungen und der aktuelle Stand der wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnis. Mit der Sicherstellung von Qualität, Wirksamkeit und Unbedenklichkeit von Phytopharmaka wird ein wesentlicher Beitrag zum Verbraucherschutz in diesem Bereich geleistet.

Abstract

Herbal medicinal products are derived from plants, parts of plants, or preparations thereof. The active substance is a complex mixture of natural compounds. Compared with the market situation in other European countries, usage and production of herbal medicinal products is of special importance in Germany. The German drug law states that phytotherapy is a particular therapy and has to be specifically considered. The Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices is the competent German authority, which is responsible for marketing authorization and regulatory evaluation of herbal medicinal products. These procedures are based on European regulations,national legislation,and current scientific knowledge. Assurance of quality, efficacy, and safety contributes substantially to consumer protection in this field.
