Abstract

Neurologically complicated trauma at the lumbar spine mostly involves vertebral fracture due to high-energy mechanisms. Here, an unusual case of lumbar spine trauma with neurologic deficit is reported corresponding to an acute traumatic lumbar disk herniation. This rare type of injury has not been well documented previously. MRI aspect and immunohistochemical features of the disk lesion are presented. Specific mechanisms of injury during contact sports in this case are discussed.
