Abstract
The Problem
A 28-year-old man severed his anterior tibial tendon while working with a cutting device. Initial treatment consisted only of wound closure. 3 months after the injury, he presented with weakness of ankle extension and a painful ankle joint.
The Solution
Operative treatment with augmented tenoplasty was performed.
Surgical Technique
Anteromedial incision over the ankle joint with extension distally to the medial cuneiform. Preparation of a turned-down flap of the proximal pedicled tendon stump.
Augmentation with a Polydioxanon (PDS) strand. Transosseous fixation of the augmented tenoplasty at the navicular bone.
Result
At 3-year follow-up, the patient was asymptomatic and showed a normal function of the ankle in comparison to the uninjured leg. Ultrasonography revealed a good ten-don structure and normal gliding.
