Fremdblutsparende Maßnahmen sind längst Bestandteil der modernen klinischen Versorgung und damit in ein umfangreiches Konzept des Patient Blood Management eingebettet. Neben ökonomischen Aspekten hat es natürlich die nachhaltige Verbesserung der Patientensicherheit zum Ziel. Nicht umsonst erhielt das Konzept 2016 den ersten Preis des Aktionsbündnisses Patientensicherheit e.V. Richard Schalk zeigt die Rolle des Pflegepersonals in diesem Prozess auf.
