Abstract
In this article, the author presents concepts for the prevention of dementia as well as approaches to its treatment using Chinese medicine. He divides these up in accordance with the so-called “Five Pillars of Treatment”, although in clinical practice the procedures are usually used in combination. In addition to the treatment concepts, the author also incorporates knowledge acquired from current study reports. New studies and meta-analyses, especially in the field of acupuncture, Taijiquan and Qigong as well as the complex topic of Chinese herbal therapy are encouraging. However—as always—further research is needed.
