Design and Fabrication of an Ultra-Wide Band Power Divider

Abstract

In this paper, a Wilkinson Power Divider (WPD) with short- and open-circuited stubs is presented. We can control the fractional bandwidth (FBW) of the power divider by radial-shaped resonators instead of open-circuited stubs. The novelty is that two short-length transmission lines (TLs) instead of conventional λ/4 TLs are utilized to obtain broadband performance and two resistors are used for isolation. Also, the FBW has been increased by increasing the length of the short-circuited stubs. Using even- and odd-mode analysis, the design equations are obtained. Over the frequencies ranging from 3.5 to 8 GHz, isolation better than 12 dB, return loss greater than 10 dB, and insertion loss lower than 3.4 dB have been obtained. The 3-dB FBW of the proposed ultra-wideband power divider is 1.32. The size of the proposed PD is 18 mm × 14 mm.
