Abstract

Recently, a generalized ladder digital-to-analog converter (DAC) for any radix has been proposed with analog voltage output. In this paper, a new generalized inverted ladder DAC with analog current output is proposed. Analog voltage output is also obtained using a current-to-voltage converter. Spread relations for this DAC are derived. Interestingly, the DACs with radices 2 and 3 have the same spread of 2. As the radix increases, the switching arrangement becomes more and more complex. Practical results obtained for radices 3 and 4 almost tally with the theoretically expected results.
