Due to an unfortunate oversight, the statement in Section 6. Discussions: line no. 8–9 in the revised manuscript ‘Estimated bulk (12 GPa) and rigidity (6 GPa) moduli of clay mineral aggregates from our modeling fall within the measured range of elastic properties of clay minerals (Vanorio et al. 2003)’ is not correct. It should be as ‘Estimated bulk (12 GPa) and rigidity (6 GPa) moduli of the HM from our modeling fall within the measured range of elastic properties of clay minerals (Vanorio et al. 2003)’. Precisely, ‘clay mineral aggregates’ should be replaced by ‘the HM’.
