Colva M Roney-Dougal studied mathematics at the University of St Andrews (MSci in 1997), and obtained a PhD from Queen Mary and Westfield College, London in 2001. She held postdoctoral positions in mathematics at the University of Sydney (2001–2003) and in computer science at St Andrews (2003–2005), before taking up a lectureship in mathematics at St Andrews. She was promoted to professor in 2019, and since 2013 she has also been the Director of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Computational Algebra. Her research interests centre on group theory, in particular finite simple groups, permutation groups, computational group theory and connections to combinatorics.
