Abstract.

Monitoring is a statutory requirement for the cultivation of genetically modified (GM) crops in the EU. To observe effects linked with the cultivation of GM crops data can be collected from different sources like farm questionnaires or existing surveillance programmes. These data must be structurised and evaluated for their quality, relevance and correlation to GM cultivation.

The methodological approach, the structuring of the data and the interpretation of the results of statistical analysis are presented. The statistical requirements and background for an appropriate evaluation and interpretation of the data are explained.
