Abstract
Low-intensity, pulsed ultrasound has stimulated bone formation in animal investigations as in cell cultures. Its clinical efficiency has been shown in two double-blinded prospective studies. Today, its main indication is the treatment of pseudarthroses. The variability of this disease, however, restricts the scientific evaluation of this treatment. For these reasons, we investigated the effects of pulsed ultrasound during callus distraction. First results show a positive influence of the ultrasound. However, for statistical valid information, a larger patient population is necessary.
