Adipositas und Diabetes mellitus Typ II

Die Prävalenz der Adipositas in Deutschland beträgt 16%, wenn man einen Body Mass Index (BMI) von mehr als 30 kg/m2 als Grenze wählt — hier beginnt die krankhafte Adipositas. Übergewichtig über einem BMI von 25 kg/m2 sind 40% der Bundesrepublikaner und 1% haben einen BMI größer als 40 kg/m2.

In Deutschland gibt es etwa 4 Millionen Diabetiker, davon 2,3 Millionen Frauen. Die Schätzungen der Anzahl von Typ I-Diabetiker schwankt zwischen 150 000 und 400 000, entsprechend ist mit 3,6–3,85 Millionen Typ II-Diabetikern in Deutschland zu rechnen. Von der Gesamtzahl der Diabetiker werden über 680 000 mit Insulin behandelt [1].

Dieser Beitrag versucht den Zusammenhang zwischen beiden Erkrankungen herauszuarbeiten und mögliche therapeutische Konsequenzen daraus abzuleiten.
