Der Zeitfaktor in der Onkologie: Spielt die Gesamtbehandlungszeit in der Chemotherapie eine Rolle?

Hintergrund:

Die Behandlung bösartiger Tumoren ruht auf den vier Säulen Chirurgie, Strahlentherapie, Chemotherapie und Immuntherapie. Interdisziplinäre Konzepte sollen eine optimale Behandlung maligner Erkrankungen ermöglichen. Dabei kommt der Optimierung jeder Behandlungsform eine wichtige Rolle zu.

Methodik: In der Arbeit wird anhand einer Literaturanalyse die Rolle der Gesamtbehandlungsdauer und der Dosisintensität bei der Optimierung chemotherapeutischer Protokolle am Beispiel dreier wichtiger onkologischer Erkrankungen untersucht.

Ergebnis und Schlussfolgerung: Sowohl Tumormodelle und die daraus folgenden Hypothesen als vor allem auch gut entworfene klinische Studien können Fortschritte in der chemotherapeutischen Behandlung von Tumorerkrankungen ermöglichen.

Background:

The treatment of malignant tumors consists in the optimal combination of the 4 modalities surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy. An important goal of clinical research is the development of the optimal application of each of these modalities.

Method: This review of the literature focuses on the importance of the total treatment duration and dose intensity in the development of chemotherapy regimens. Three important malignant diseases will be examined as to the optimal application of systemic chemotherapy.

Result and Conclusion: Tumor models with the resulting hypotheses and well-designed clinical trials will lead to progress in the treatment of malignant tumors.
