Abstract

Saturable absorbers in thin film solid matrices are recently been shown to be potential candidates for low power continuous wave Optical Phase Conjugation. Efficiency of an Optical Phase Conjugator depends on parameters like saturation intensity, photo-chemical damage threshold and triplet state life-time. We report some of the results of our investigations on certain thin film saturable absorbers. Thin films of Eosin, Erythrosin and Rose Bengal were prepared in gelatin matrix. Triplet state life-times of these dyes in gelatin matrix are found to be in the decreasing order while saturation intensities and damage thresholds are in the increasing order. Preliminary results show that Erythrosin has comparatively higher Optical Phase Conjugation efficiency.
