Abstract
Strehl’s ‘Definitionshelligkeit’ is an important parameter for quality assesment of imaging systems and maximization of the same through the use of amplitude filters on.the pupil of the system is considered a useful criterion in studies on apodization. For perfectly space-coherent quasi-monochromatic illumination of the aperture, the solution to this problem is the uniform pupil. The problem has been solved for the more general and practical case of partially space-coherent illumination of the aperture. Some numerical results are presented.
