Abstract
Choropleth maps also arc a crucial presentation method in the media, e. g., to visualize election results. For data-driven journalism, the combination of different data sets is of particular interest to show correlations, for example between income and election results. Since these data are often available for different reporting zones, a spatial reorganization is necessary. For this purpose, records from source zones, e. g., the 138 district regions of Berlin, are mapped on target zones, e. g., the 1709 electoral districts of Berlin. In this article we cover the application of areal interpolation for data journalists by means of the test case Berlin. We present a selection of appropriate methods and a basic concept of a software for areal interpolation.
