Abstract
Digital maps have nowadays entered many fields of everyday life, for instance the planning of leisure activities. However, it is unclear whether these digital options replace the past consideration of traditional information sources such as hiking maps. In an online survey with N = 181 participants we investigated whether and how digital maps are used for the preparation, execution and follow-up of a mountain tour. The results of the survey demonstrate a dominance of traditional hiking maps compared to digital options. Regarding the digital options, different aspects seem to be of interest before, during and after a mountain tour. Thus, no evidence was found that online portals replace traditional hiking maps.
