Abstract
The automation in generalization is a challenge that has been tackled by researchers and industry since many years. Some of the attempts have been successful, which is documented by the availability of very powerful algorithms today. In this presentation some of the necessary generalization operations will be described in detail; open questions will be addressed and new approaches are sketched to solve them. Finally, the option will be described to consider generalization as a process, which can be formalized and reproduced. Thus, in the future, not the generalization results will be stored, but instead the process to generate them.
