Abstract
Psychiatric recordkeeping today has important clinical, legal, and financial ramifications. Instruction regarding appropriate methods for documenting patient care should, but appears not to, be a part of every psychiatric residency program. This paper describes the replkable resuks of a half-day, mandatory, multiple faculty session for psychiatric residents held in 19S4 at Wright State University on this topic, designed to improve resident skills both in recordkeeping itself and in teaching junior residents and medical students about recordkeeping. The design, implementation, content, and evaluation of the workshop are discussed, and issues raised by this experience are posed.
