Oscillatory Modes of Gas Mixture Combustion in Tubes of Small Diameter

Abstract

Oscillatory modes of combustion of a propane-air mixture in small-diameter tubes (3–7 mm), hollow or filled with an inert porous medium, with external local heating are studied experimentally. The type of oscillations of the flame front studied differs qualitatively from the oscillations resulting from acoustic resonance on the tube eigenfrequency. The oscillatory process consists of the following stages: ignition in the heated portion of the tube, flame propagation toward the gas flow, flame extinction due to heat exchange of the gas with the cold walls and the porous medium. Experimental dependences of the frequency of the oscillations on the gas flow rate are obtained
