Abstract
Tobermorite (TOB), the cement phase that results from the hydration of the cement, was laboratory prepared from trachyte rock (TR). The effect of the prepared TOB on the specific properties of ordinary Portland cement (OPC) was investigated. The results showed that the water of consistency or w/c ratio as well as setting times (initial and final) were increased with the addition of TOB. Also, combined water and free lime contents, bulk density, and compressive strength also increased with curing times up to 90 days, but they only increased up to 10 mass-% TOB content and then decreased. The free lime content decreased with increasingTOB content due to the deficiency of the cement. The SEM images showed that the formed hydration products with the pure OPC are the same with the prepared TOB, but with more developed crystals.
