Abstract
Since 1977, the Department of Psychiatry at Indiana University School of Medicine has offered a clinical elective in Consultation/Liaison Child Psychiatry to freshmen medical students. It helps students view themselves as true “doctors-in-training” rather than merely “medical students,” teaches an approach to patients using the students’ own personality styles, and offers the opportunity for students to integrate basic science material with its practical clinical applications. Student and faculty evaluations are included.
