Abstract

Vanadium—discovered in 1801 and used as an alloying element for steel since the early years of this century—was produced in the pure form for the first time in 1927. A semi-commercial process for producing vanadium was not developed until 1950, and today research efforts are being extended to widen the potential market for this new metal.
