Inhibitory Dimensional Control: The Effects of Discriminative Autoshaping and Negative Automaintenance Procedures

Abstract

Two experiments investigated dimensional control following autoshaping training. Experiment 1 exposed pigeons to successive presentations of a white key with a black dot followed immediately by grain and a 570-nm key light never followed by grain. Combined-cues and resistance-to-autoshaping tests both revealed evidence of inhibitory dimensional control. Experiment 2 exposed pigeons to successive presentations of a white key with a black dot followed immediately by grain and a 570-nm key light followed by grain if the pigeon did not key peck. Combined-cues and resistance-to-autoshaping tests both indicated the establishment of conditioned inhibition but not inhibitory dimensional control.
