Bias and Undermatching in Concurrent Chain-Pull Bar-Press Performance

Abstract

Two rats were reinforced with food according to pairs of concurrent variable-interval schedules. One schedule arranged reinforcement for bar-pressing, the other for chain-pulling. While a clear bias toward bar-pressing was revealed, consistent, strong undermatching also was observed. The results are largely in accord with previous experiments which have examined choice between different response topographies.
