Abstract
A study of children’s release from proactive inhibition as a function of shift of evaluative connotation was replicated using a group-administered modification of Wickens’ short-term memory distractor technique. A total of 20 fourth graders, 21 fifth graders, and 21 sixth graders were tested with the group procedure. Results indicated that the group procedure may be an efficient alternative to the individual procedure for study of children’s word encoding. Suggestions were made for further study and possible modification of the task.
