Abstract
Ulceration rate in rats was measured as a function of REM sleep deprivation and combinations of two stressors, i.e., fear conditioning and immobilization, as a test of the hypothesis that deprivation of REM sleep acts to produce stress-related change by increasing the salience of stressful environmental stimuli. The results supported this hypothesis.
