Abstract

In 2 experiments sodium light (589 nm) reared chicks were reinforced for key pecks in the presence of sodium light and then given a generalization test on 589, 560, and 530 nm. In the first experiment Ss trained with the key and its surround equally illuminated exhibited less control than Ss trained with the key more brightly illuminated than the surround. These results demonstrate that nonprogrammed sources of interdimensional discrimination training do modulate stimulus control in monochromatically reared and trained Ss. A second experiment in which all Ss were trained with the key and its surround equally illuminated demonstrated that the removal of other possible sources of interdimensional discrimination training did not significantly reduce stimulus control. The results are discussed in terms of whether or not the removal of all sources of interdimensional discrimination training would eliminate stimulus control in monochromatically reared and trained Ss.
