Abstract

Although college students as a group are known to produce profile elevations different from other groups such as the Minnesota “normals” used in the construction of the MMPI, a thorough delineation of the differences is not available. Previous reports of collegiate profiles contain limitations which serve to decrease their meaningfulness. All incoming freshmen at the University of Alabama in 1965 were administered the MMPI as part of a routine counseling battery before school began. This provided a sample of 1,538 males and 1,173 females; one of the largest single samplings reported to date. All protocols were included regardless of scores on validity scales. Means, standard deviations, and standard error of the means were presented along with the frequencies of two and three point codes. The Multiphasic profile obtained from entering college freshmen in the Southeastern United States is no diffrent from that seen in other geographical regions.
