Abstract
Data of several studies on the equilibrium between molten iron and open hearth-type slags have been combined to determine some of the chemical reactions involved in steel-making. Effects of slag composition and temperature on the iron oxide activity, distri-bution of sulfur between slag and metal, and the carbon content of the metal are dis-cussed. Also, an overall reaction for the equilibrium between sulfur and oxygen is presented.
